Hello Melynda,
This is Allison (Ethan's mom). I was glad to see that you put your blog information in the IHH database. I just wanted to let you know that I was following your journey and that I am more than happy to answer any questions that you may have about this next surgery. Ethan just had his Glenn in September and is currently doing very well. We too were not diagnosed and have experienced first hand the gut wrenching emtions that one goes through when diagnosed with such a serious heart condition. I KNOW how scary this can be. It is so odd to feel such fear and devestation and yet feel so blessed at the same time. While I was reading through your blog, I found it interesting that you delivered at Mckay Dee. That is where I work as a charge nurse (on the OB/GYN floor) and where I delivered Ethan in May. I remember my fried saying that another infant had been diagnosed with HLHS and due to it being so rare was surprised that she had been working both the night I was diagnosed as well as this other infant. I think it was probably you that she had been referring to. (To my knowledge there have not been any other infants diagnosed with this heart condition). Anyway, I don't know if you remember any of the nurses that took care of you the night you were diagnosed but if Mariska is the same baby, then my good friend Carie is one of the nurses that assessed her in the nursery and got her transferred to the NICU. I am SO glad that they found this prior to you going home and to hear that things have gone as "smoothly" as possible since her surgery. (Really, how "smooth" can heart surgery really be?) Anyway, I just wanted to introduce myself and let you know that there were others out there who may know what your feeling and that I am glad that you found the IHH group. Please let me know if there is any thing I can do to help or questions that I can answer. You can reach my through my blog or through the IHH group site. Take care! She is beautiful!
